Following the strike carried by the workers of Al-Bira municipality, in Ramallah, last Saturday, the municipal administration filed a complaint to the General Investigation against the union, where a number of workers and trade unionists were arrested before the release of some of them, while others are still held until now.
Their colleagues in the municipality threatened to resume the strike until the release of their colleagues detained by the police and the fulfilment of their professional and social demands that were raised during Saturday's strike, which were disregarded by the administration.
In an earlier e-newsletter, we disclosed the demands of Al-Bira municipal workers which can be summarized in the protection of the workers’ rights the payment of all the allowances included in the system of local employees’ bodies.
The workers also asked for the instalment of workers, who have been working for more than three years and received a good evaluation, in comply with article 8 of the regulations on the implementation of the workers’ local system and an internal declaration is necessary prior to the vacancy job announcement.
The workers also highlighted the need to leave the salaries at the same range, without freezing and the formation of a joint committee to settle the issue of joining the Palestinian Retirement Authority, in addition to calculating the years of seniority for all employees and the cancellation of the decision to dismiss one of the employees and the illegal deduction of workers’ salaries.
