The feminist association “Mujeres”, in "Huelva" (southern Spain) confirmed that the Moroccan women were actually subjected to illegal working conditions and sexual assaults in a report published after the investigation.
The report of the feminist organization came in response to the Moroccan Minister of Labour’s statements, in which he denied the exposure of Moroccan workers to harassment and sexual assaults in Spain.
The organization stated that the Moroccan female seasonal workers in the Spanish strawberry farms suffered the most of sexual assaults and violations of their rights as workers.
The Spanish organization called on the official bodies to open an investigation in this issue, pointing out that the Moroccan female workers are discriminated from the beginning of their selection, with the absence of the working conditions, low wages which are not enough comparing with the number of working hours, calling for help and assistance for the Moroccan workers, who are the victims of abuse and ill-treatment in the farms. In addition, they also called for the use of administrative and criminal procedures against those responsible for these attacks, in addition to the provision of trade unions and businessmen commitments to not repeat this abuse against the Moroccan women.
It is noteworthy that the Moroccan Minister of Labour had previously denied receiving complaints from working women in the Spanish farms that they were sexually assaulted at work, calling on the parliament to form a commission to investigate about the issue.
