The Lebanese Government Employees’ union issued a statement confirming that the Minister of Health did not meet the minimum of the workers’ needs. He did not denounce the attacks of the security forces on the protesting workers during the past days and the use of the excessive force against unarmed employees, causing injuries among them.
The union accused the minister of equating the victim with the executioner, who only asked to take into account the feelings of the protesters during beatings and assaults by the security forces.
On the negotiations between the parties, the union confirmed that it did not reach any real or final results as the meeting was based only on mere discussions, just like its predecessors. The search for solutions has been postponed until after the meeting of the Minister of Health with the Minister of Finance and workers of the Ministry of Finance.
It also stressed that the strike of government hospital workers is ongoing until concrete results are achieved regarding the legitimate demands submitted by the workers, including the improving of the workers’ living conditions and the acceleration in the implementation of the agreements about the salaries and ranks series that the government has ignored so far.
