According to trade union sources, the Mauritanian doctors who were on strike have registered their data and financial numbers in the strikers' lists to be sent to the Ministry of Health, in response to its decision to cut the striking doctors’ salaries.
The Mauritanian Ministry of Health has sent the directors of hospitals to provide them with a list of striking doctors to cut their wages because of the strike. This decision was condemned by doctors and their trade union representatives as they considered it as a flagrant violation of their right to strike, stressing their insistence to continue their protests, as much as, their willing to engage in a dialogue with the authorities as far as it is serious and responsible and would result to good results that would satisfy the aspirations and expectations of doctors.
It is noteworthy that the health doctors in Mauritania are asking for the improvement of their living conditions, the provision of medical equipment and the launching of an official campaign against the spread of the phenomenon of counterfeiting drugs that are killing citizens and constitute a danger to the state and society.
work must be improved through raising the salaries and making urgent cases free, ensuring the quality of medical equipment and combating the counterfeiting of medicines which has spread widely in the country. The government authorities acknowledge its presence on a large scale without deciding to address the phenomenon which has become a concern for workers in the health sector and the Mauritanian public opinion.
