According to Human Rights Watch organization, the Saudi authorities arrested women's rights activists for "violating religious and national principles,"
The organization revealed in a statement published on Saturday 19 May that the authorities arrested last Tuesday 7 people, including women without knowing the reasons, noting that among the activists arrested "Loujaine Hadhloul”, "Iman Nafjan" and “Aziza Al-Yusuf”. They are activists who defended the right of women to drive and their constant demand to raise the guardianship of men over women.
" Sarah Leah Whitson”, the director of the organization's Middle East subsidiary said that there is concern among Saudi reformers who dare to publicly defend human rights and liberate women from the real motives of the reform campaign launched by the Saudi Prince “Mohammed bin Salman”. She also explained that the only "crime" committed by activists that their desire to see women driving cars was before of that of “Mohammed bin Salman”.
The Saudi authorities have accused the activists of "suspicion of overstepping the religious and national principles and interfering with the external parties in order to undermine the security and stability of the Kingdom and its social and national unity"
