The Tramway workers in Casablanca: Injustice, abuse and the violation of their most basic rights

A group of workers of Casablanca's Tramway Company raised the red badge on Thursday to protest against what they considered as an arbitrary behaviour against them by the administration.

Workers belonging to the Moroccan Labour Union complain about the harsh working conditions affecting their dignity and their professional future within the company. They complain about the ongoing failure of the administration to consolidate the principles of social peace within the institution and the violation of the workers’ rights, who are working on flourishing this facility, not to mention the punitive measures taken against a number of them.

The union issued a statement in which it highlighted that the management of the institution "has resorted to the austerity approach, having been authorized by the Casablanca City Council, and it is violating the agreements signed with it", including the increase in wages, which has not changed since the beginning of work five years ago. The union promised to change the dire situation from which workers suffer, in light of the rising of the living prices.

It should be noted that the union confirmed that some workers were subjected to harassment by some officials in the company, pointing out that they will continue their struggle to achieve their social demands and to push the officials to respond to them, especially about the increase in wages.
