On Wednesday, bank employees held a strike in front of the headquarters of the Association of Banks in the commercial center to ask for the renewal of the collective labour contract after the negotiations with the association that reached a dead end.
Bank employees complain of a decline in their gains and privileges, which affected their living and social situation, in light of the high prices and the decline in their purchasing power.
This lead the workers to ask for the renewal of the collective labour contract and the review of pension, the development of wages and scholarships for school and university. However, the representatives of the customs rejected the first two demands and announced their intention to raise the school and university scholarships by a percentage that does not keep up with the increases in the premiums since early 2013, the date of the last amendment from the association, in this regard.
The customs and the banking association follow a negative approach in dealing with the legitimate demands of employees, their attempts to digest the gains made by the collective contract and to remove it from its content, and not to respect its requirements, in addition to the instability in the workplace, the dismissal of employees from their services and the non-commitment to increase wages, as well as, the break in the working hours. In fact, the association has even prohibited workers from carrying out their electoral duties in the recent election, in addition to many other abuses.
According to our sources, it is expected to escalate the protest movements, which may reach the approval of the general strike in the next few days, if the method of the association in the banks in dealing with the demands of employees will still the same.
