Mauritania – The labor court in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott, ruled in favor of workers of “Total” company in Mauritania. The court has ruled to award financial compensation to these workers. Labor sources said the court had awarded compensation in big amounts in favor of a worker who was dismissed from the French companys branch. The same court also ruled in favor of another employee of the company had filed a lawsuit against the company and accused them of depriving him of some rights and allowances. In May last year, the employees of the company waved for an open strike to protest against the administrations intransigence and refusal to grant them their legal rights. Most companies operating in Mauritania have committed to grant workers their rights, with the exception of a few companies, including Frances Total. Totals representation in Mauritania sponsors the commercial interests of the existing company in France, where it sells oil derivatives and distributes gasoline and diesel fuel to its plants.
