Morocco: Womens Movement welcomes the entry of nine women into the new government

Morocco – Moroccan womens movement welcomed the entry of nine women in the new government appointed by King Mohammed VI last Wednesday, headed by Saad Eddin Othmani.

Nine women were appointed to the new government, which includes 39 ministers, including one minister, the minister of the family, equality, solidarity, social development Basima Hkawi, and eight women writers.

This womens presence in the new government, which has risen compared with the previous government, has prompted womens organizations and organizations to pay tribute to it as a first and major step towards establishing a fair share of government and political positions.

Activists considered that despite the rise in the number of women in the new government in Morocco, more effort and conviction are needed to achieve equality between men and women. Further, of the 39 government participants, 19 have been appointed to achieve gender equality.
