Algeria: Postal workers demand to benefit from social loans

Algeria – Algerian postal workers demanded the sector minister, as well as the first minister to intervene urgently to stop what they called a masquerade at the Post Office of Algeria affecting their social services.

The Minister had previously ordered the establishment of the participation committees to provide social services in a legal and transparent ways, but those in charge of social services sent a directive to all social affairs offices across the country in order to Speed up the granting of loans in unfair and non-transparent way and under the supervision of legally unqualified committees.

This matter has raised the ire of workers as most workers were excluded from the benefits of social services and the loans were only restricted to specific class. Workers considered this a clear violation of the law as each worker contribute with 2 per cent of his wage mass and then get eliminated in a chaotic way. It should be noted that since the establishment of the institution there are no participation committees accompany the institution in the operations of governance, which is a clear violation of the law.
