Lebanon: Social security workers carry out sit-ins in various areas

Lebanon – The workers and the users of the National Social Security Funds in various Lebanese regions have staged sit-ins in front of their headquarters at the invitation of their union to demand the cancellation of Articles 54 and 68 of the General Budget Law 2017 because they caused a financial deficit in guaranteeing and giving this guarantor institution its rights and equity.

The member of the Council of Delegates in the National Social Security Fund users union Lilian Fawaz spoke on behalf of the protesters in Sidon saying: Today we sit in compliance with the decision of our union because of the existence of Articles 54 and 68 in the Budget Law 2017 Article 54 provides for the abolition of the requirement to obtain a patent from the National Social Security Fund This causes the institutions to stop paying subscriptions to the procedure and the users, and therefore, because we are still offering health insurance to the insured, this causes a financial deficit for the National Social Security Fund.

Baalbek also pointed out that there are institutions committed to the payment of their contributions to the guarantee, considering that these measures are a key part of the destruction of social security, pointing out that the security funds are the cornerstone of every worker in Lebanon to recover their family and the payment of compensation at the end of service, Which will fly in the event of the passage of these articles in the budget.

The General Labor Union is a major supporter of our movement, the protesters said, warning, This move is a warning that the government will reverse these measures against the security.

The centres of Tripoli, Choueifat, Tire and other areas witnessed similar sit-ins, and the President of the Choueifat Center in the social security, Mr Kanana Khaled, called on the staff to sit in front of the centre at 12 noon in order to protect the social security.

In addition, the security staff at the Airport Road Center carried out with the head of the centre, Mr Fadi Alwiya, and responded to the decision of the union to sit and distribute to the citizens brochures in support of and defence of the social security.
