Jordan: on the beginning of Ramadan a General strike will take place in the in harbor

Jordan – The General Union of Workers in Ports and Clearance announced its intention to launch a comprehensive strike at the port facilities at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

 

The strike came after the failure of negotiations with the port administration and its refusal to give workers in the port their rights acquired during the meeting held last week in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Labor.

 

The workers claim that the company is trying to evade them after acquiring the juridical character of the law. This means that an additional 32 hours of work per month is given to the workers in accordance with the provisions of Articles 4 and 59 of the Jordanian Labor Law.

 

One of the demands demanded by the workers is that the administration should abide by the Labor Law and the decision of the Aqaba Court regarding the working hours of the holy month of Ramadan and to restore the old bonuses system since the current system is contrary to the Labor Law.

 

The demands also included a monthly increase of 125 dinars, housing allowance and 100% instead of a savings fund for employees of the company, in accordance with the collective labor agreement No. 94/2012, in addition to the obligation to pay end of service benefits according to Labor Court decision No. 5/2014, And the inclusion of heavy machinery in local insurance according to Jordanian laws.
