Egypt: Insurance Company workers demand their special allowance

Egypt – Employees of the state insurance companies threatened to carry out a strike if the 13% incremental bonus and the 10% state bonus were not paid retroactively to the base salary of July 2016, and link the basic salary to bonuses, incentives and allowances. Workers criticized Ashraf al-Sharqawi’s position, the minister of public business, who refuses to apply the special allowance, despite the achievement of profits. MP Gamal Akbi, the deputy of the labour force committee in the House of Representatives and the head of the General Union of Bank and Insurance Workers, demanded the application of the allowance approved by the law. Pointing out that if the allowance is not applied, a protest will be organized in front of the Ministry of the business sector in the presence of all representatives of insurance companies, which are more than 5 thousand employees, stressing that the vigil will not violate the law.
