Jordan: Phosphate workers launch strike

Jordam – Workers at the Jordan Phosphate Company’s Shidiya branch have launched a strike this Sunday morning, protesting what they perceive to be their arbitrary dismissals by the company’s management. According to protesters, the administration has let go three doctors who provided medical assistance to workers at the industrial complex and their families, which is seen as a first step towards the plant’s relocation to Aqaba. The workers have warned that the escalation of protests will not be limited to the mines, but that it will be extended to other branches, including those in Aqaba and Ma’an.
