Algeria: Labour Ministry to dissolve Sonelgaz Union

Algeria  – Social Media activist circulated a decision signed by the Algerian Minister of Labour to dissolve the National Union of Electricity Workers under the pretext of not respecting the provisions of the Labour Law, without clarifying what it means. The activists called on the Minister of Labour to come out and confirm or deny the news, stressing that if it is true, it is considered a blow to the freedom of trade union organization in Algeria,  and they will not be silent about it. The head of the union, Rauf Malal, said in a post on his Facebook page: there are many mistakes in this decision, which contains forgery hypothesis, and false information, so far the Labour Ministry refuses to provide clarifications about the fact of this decision, until then the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers is a legitimate union until the Labour Minister authorizes the validity of this decision. The unionist commented of the decision saying  This decision is illegal because the ministry هs not entitled to dissolve the union without recourse to justice, this is a dictatorial decision, I ask the civil society, political parties and independent unions to support the union in this ordeal and dangerous precedent in Algeria.
