Egypt – Thirty-two workers from Tourah Cement Company were sentences to three years with labour on charges of illegal protest earlier this year and assaulting the security forces and using force and resisting authorities. In April, the factory workers announced a sit-in to protest the companys decision to lay them off after 10 to 15 years of service. Security forces arrested 32 workers after a 55-day sit-in because the company had failed to pay money owed to them, treating them as contractors rather than employees.
