Mauritania – The governor of Tidjikja province arrested all bakery workers in the city due to their strike which they started a week ago. Bakers entered the strike to protest against preventing them from increasing the price of the bread to 40 ougya, an increase of 10 ougya. The bakers had an agreement with the local authorities in 2005 to stay on the current price, as long as the state provides the agreed support in the agreement, a condition that has been met for years. The district governor prevented the Free Mauritania Trade Union (CLTM) from attending a session that local authorities have set to discuss the issue of the strike and also refussed them to attend any agreement between the parties concerned, the meeting was attended by some workers and the district deputy Sidi Ould Didi. It was agreed that the choice would be left to bakeries and workers in the sector, however the governor retracted that agreement, ordered the arrest of the bakery workers, and confiscated all bread.
