Bahrain – The Bahraini House of Representatives will discuss in its next session a proposal for a law that charges the worker who left his work for no reason, his return expenses to his homeland, the services committee approved the proposal because they found it “reasonable”, by amending article 27 of Law 19 of 2006 on the regulation of the labour market. The LMRA Labour Market Regularity Authority and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) disputed the proposal. The LMRA demanded to reconsider the proposal because it might harm workers as the employer may misuse this law, which may also conflict with human rights principles and might as well increase illegal labours. While the chamber was forced to approve the proposal in case there is no apparent or hidden suspicion of trafficking in human given the burden of proving that the worker left his job for a reason or not. The Chamber proposed adding a new paragraph to article 27 stating that the employer shall not bear the expenses of returning the foreign worker to his country in the event of his death if he left work for lawful reason.
