Mauritania: Workers threaten to strike

Mauritania – Workers in the economic capital city of Nouadhibou threatened to strike on July 3, 2017, if their demands were not met. Workers sent a letter to their companies and local authorities to demand the provision of seniority, the right of annual leave, the right to retire for those who are entitled.  The workers, in a letter signed by the head of the Infrastructure Division of the General Confederation of Mauritanian Workers, Omi Weld Sayed Ahmad, said that they are asking the National Company for Industry and Mines to stop dealing with their contractors because they do not meet the required standards. Workers said that they are giving the authorities until July 3 to meet their demands or they will carry out their strike, according to their letter
