Egypt: anger over workers exclusion from cost of living allowance

Egypt- Hours before the adoption of the cost of living allowance, Egypt is witnessing a state of anger among labour leaders belonging to the business sector after the government officially announced that they are excluded from the special allowances and cost of living allowance, announced by the government following the rise in prices in the country. Most of these companies suffer heavy losses, which made the Egyptian government think more than once to sell or lease them to private companies, however, some still confirm that the general assemblies of these companies declare profits estimated at millions, and that the government is determined to force those companies lose in order to sell them. The Egyptian parliament approved in June last year a draft law submitted by the government to grant an exceptional allowances to workers in the state who are not included in Civil Service Law No. 81 of 2016. The allowance is granted at 10% of the basic wage. The minimum allowance is 65 LE and the maximum is 130 LE.
