Saudi Arabia: Migrant workers leave Saudi Arabia after tax increases

Saudi Arabia- – Thousands of foreign workers plan to leave Saudi Arabia following the implementation of a levy at rate of about 670 thousand until 2020. According to a report by Banque Saudi Fransi, the rate of foreign workers who will leave the kingdom will reach around 165,000 workers per year. The report pointed out that the levy fees will provide about 20 billion riyals during the next three years. The number of foreigners in the Kingdom is about 11.7 million, with 7.4 million of them working, and 4.3 million accompanying, constituting more than one million families.  The Saudi authorities began to apply levy tax as of July 1, approved by the Council of Ministers within the financial balance program. The fee will start at 100 riyals ($27) a month, rising to 400 riyals monthly by 2020.
