Palestine: The Network of Private Organizations and the Council of Organizations Call for an End to the Cyber Crimes Law

Palestine- The Palestinian NGO Network and the Council of Palestinian Human Rights Organizations said that it considered the detention of activist Ashraf Abu Aram, the networks advocacy officer “extremely dangerous”, as he was arrested from his home in the town of Birzeit last night by the Preventive Security Service after its break-in. The network and the Council consider it a continuation of a long series of flagrant violations of the law and confiscation of civil rights guaranteed by the Palestinian Basic Law and international human rights standards signed by State of Palestine without reservations. The statement issued by the network said that this action is a violation of basic human rights, which have increased significantly recently, have been seen as a serious threat to the social fabric, especially after issuing the Cybercrimes Law, the targeted journalists, and activists who criticize the political system, the law also could block news sites, and violate the right of freedom of expression.
