Bahrain – The Bangladesh Embassy has written to Bahrain’s Labour and Social Development Ministry suggesting a scheme following a spate of fires at unregistered accommodation commonly shared by illegal residents because it is cheap. Those affected often include expats who bought visas on the black market and took up casual labour jobs, commonly known as “free visa” workers. “We have been facing this issue of having to arrange shelter for men whenever we have incidents of fire,” Bangladesh Embassy labour consul Shaikh Tahidul Islam told the GDN. “Most of the time these men are free visa workers living in illegal labour accommodation. “It is often sad that they end up losing everything in such incidents. “Usually, when such fires happen, these men don’t have anywhere to go and the embassy, with the support of the Bangladeshi community, sets up temporary accommodations in office cabins or we rent out rooms.
