Bahrain – A 69-year-old Bahraini businessman is said to have mistreated the 31-year-old Filipina from 2013 until 2016, according to court documents. She said that the defendant initially promised her a monthly salary of BD150 but paid her only BD85 per month, and that too for just a year. He is then said to have stopped paying her a salary and at one stage locked her up in his office for two months without food. However, she managed to alert officials at her embassy to her ordeal after she managed to lay her hands on a mobile phone. The victim said the abuse caused her a huge deal of emotional trauma. “He would threaten to get me jailed if I told anyone about my ordeal,” she said in her statement to prosecutors. “He said I was staying illegally in Bahrain and I had no choice but to accept his demands. “He would always threaten to beat me with a stick and once threw an apple at me.
