Mauritania: Workers dismissed for union activity

Mauritania – A group of workers from the Chinese company Poly Hundong in Nouadhibou, northern Mauritania, expressed disappointment at the companys decision to dismiss them arbitrarily, according to them. The workers said they demanded to improve their work condition, and the company quickly replied that the dismissal came due to violations of the labour laws. One of the workers, Mohammed Ould Med said that he and his colleagues were surprised when the companys director asked the workers to leave the factory. After that, he decided to dismiss five workers for incitement, while the workers demanded the return of their colleagues. The worker said that they did not violate any labour law they only demanded to improve work conditions. Workers representative said that the company use a bus for 15 people to transfer 100 workers , workers demanded another bus since they  4800 ouguiya monthly of their salaries, according to him. The dismissed workers were surprised that the Chinese company refused to accept their demands, wondering what the secret was in rejecting trade union work in the Chinese company.
