Egypt: Chemical industries Workers demand the cost-of-living allowance

Egypt – The members of the trade union committees working in the chemical industries companies at their meeting headed by Imad Hamdi, vice chairman of the General Federation of Egyptian Workers Unions and the chairman of the General Union of Chemical Industry Workers, decided to continue the their open meetings until their legitimate demands are met. In a memorandum to the chairman of the Holding Company for Chemical Industries, the members demanded that the cost of living allowance be paid at 10% of the basic wage. The legal advisor of the General Union will file a lawsuit against the Ministry of Finance to stop the deduction of the employment tax and refund the amount to workers. The members decided to form a committee headed by Ahmed Abdeen, Secretary General of the union in preparation for a conference of production and development; to discuss the mechanisms of modernization and solving the problems of workers and linking wages at production rates in September.
