Bahrain – HIGHER than usual temperatures hitting Bahrain this summer have led volunteers to extend a donation drive to distribute water and fruits to labourers working at construction sites.
The ‘Help and Drink 2017’ initiative was launched by the Bahrain Malayali Business Forum (BMBF) Youth Wing last month and was supposed to last for two weeks, but due to overwhelming support from community members it has been extended until the end of this month.
So far more than 8,000 bottles of water, 5,000 juice packets, 70 boxes of bananas and 30 boxes of oranges have been distributed to over 6,000 labourers working at 245 work sites across Bahrain. It comes as last month was recorded as the hottest July in Bahrain since 1902, with the highest temperature reaching 46C on July 3 at Bahrain International Airport. Bahrain experienced 22 days of high temperatures exceeding 40C during July.
