Jordan – Tamkeen Fields for Aid criticized reports published in the media focused on crimes committed by foreigners, indicating that this would fuel the speech of hatred and discrimination against them. In a press statement Tamkeen said that that “ holding migrants the responsibility for multiple crimes is a legal and professional mistake, as the proportion of crimes committed by them are considered to be relatively few compared to the total crimes, and therefore the crime must be seen away from the nationality of the perpetrators. Most of these reports have been published in part from the general context, without an explanation of the overall view of the subject, which is considered misleading and creates a hate speech against foreigners, the center added. According to the figures released by the Criminal Information Department, crimes committed by Migrant of different nationalities registered a decrease by 14%. Thus, out of the 22,695 criminal offenses registered in Jordan, 3,165 crimes were committed by migrants. The statement said that a number of the crimes registered in the report to be committed by Migrants are actually complaints filed in the police station. Thus, they have not been reviewed by a court of law and there is no final judicial verdict on them, either of guilt or innocence, and the majority of the crimes registered against migrant workers, particularly those of domestic workers, fall under two categories: either them escaping the house of their employer, which is not a felony or a misdemeanor but a violation of the Labour Law; or theft, with most of them being malicious accusations by the employers.
