JORDAN: Cleaning and dyeing clothes considered hazardous profession by SSC

Jordan – The job of Cleaning and dyeing clothes is classified as a “hazardous” profession  in accordance to the amended system of insurance benefits no. 120 of 2016 issued under Social Security Law No. 1 of 2014. Social Security Corporation(SSC) Spokesperson Musa Sbeihi said clothing cleaner is the one who prepares the washing machine and the washing process automatically. The clothing dyer runs textile dyeing machines, as well as the operation of the color machines and the wrapping of the fabrics, washing, polishing and blowing them. He said that the profession is classified as hazardous because the nature of the work is harmful to the workers health due to the use of chemical and carcinogenic cleaning materials, in addition to operating in a humid environment with high levels of noise. Those who work are stressed by work and standing for long periods and performing frequent repetitive movements. He said facilities should supply the SSC with a list of the workers’ names, and should also pay an additional 1 per cent for the social security subscription. He added that the owners of clothing cleaning and dyeing shops are also obliged to register and participate in SSC if they work in their facilities in order to protect workers.
