Tunisia: Oil Companies Association goes on strike

Tunisia –  The Union of Workers of Oil and Chemical Companies in Tunisia announced its decision to implement a general strike covering the entire sector without specifying a date. The General union of Petroleum and Chemical sector held a meeting on Wednesday, during which its administrative body adopted the general strike in all companies in the sector. . The union said that the determination of dates and details of the strike was entrusted to the Executive Office of the Tunisian General Union of Labour in coordination with the Executive Office of the Oil Union. The Union said that it intended to carry out a general strike to defend the sustainability of the Tunisian company for the manufacture of rubber tires and the dignity of its workers who are always threatened to be dismissed as the company will force  800 workers  to be unemployed.” “The General Petroleum Union refuses to disrupt production and vital public and private facilities however, they unconditionally stand in solidarity with the peaceful protests that demands the rights of the workers,” said Taher al-Shaabawi, assistant general secretary of the General Petroleum Union. The General Directorate of the Tunisian Rubber Tire Company announced earlier that it had to close the factory for 3 months due to its inability to pay the salaries of workers due to financial difficulties.
