Jordan: Ministry of Labor include mental illness in the Domestic Workers Insurance Act

Jordan – The Ministry of Labour issues new instructions for domestic workers requiring the existence of an official document from a judicial authority in the country of employment indicating that there is no criminal record of them, and a medical certificate that they are free of organic and psychological diseases. The director of the Directorate of Home Workers Hayel Al-Zubin expected that these instructions will include all expatriate workers, not just domestic workers. He said that these instructions came to avoid any problems, especially that mental illness was not included in the requirements to bring domestic worker. He stressed that any work permit will not be issued to any worker until the completion of these papers, noting that these new instructions will be implemented soon. . He pointed out that the recent agreement to recruit workers from Nepal applied all items related to the new instructions. He said that there was an electronic connection with the all governments that export domestic workers so that the visa is only  granted after the receipt of the requirements, which also includes psychological report.
