QATAR – German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her hope that the conditions for immigrant workers employed in the construction of the facilities of the Qatar Football World Cup 2022 continue to improve. We want migrant workers to be treated better. I hope that this process of reform will continue, she said at a joint press conference with the Qatari emir Tamim bin Hamad al Zani. Amnesty International and trade union organizations had denounced the working conditions of migrant workers from Bangladesh, India and Nepal, in the construction works for the World Cup 2022, in which several workers have lost their lives due to the high temperatures and lack of protection.
