Tunisia – The executive office of the Tunisian General Labour Union condemned the assault on teacher Faiza Souissi and denounced the “irresponsible statements of the regional delegate for education in Sfax. The Executive Office of the Union also renewed the demand to accelerate the implementation of the agreement on the enactment of a law that criminalize attacks on teachers and schools. It is noteworthy that Faiza Suissi was prevented from entering school in Bahy El-Bahr 3 in Sfax, on claims that she was atheist. The statement said that a number of parents gathered in front of the school for three consecutive days to prevent Ms. Faiza Suissi from entering the school, causing chaos in the school. The Union held the responsibility to the Ministry and the concerned authorities and said they should defend the educational institutions. They also call for the speedy implementation of the agreement on the enactment of a law criminalizing attacks on educators and the educational institution.
