Egypt: Lactel workers denounce arbitrary dismissal

Egypt – A number of dismissed workers from “Lactel” dairy products company held a press conference at the General Union of private sector workers in the presence of the Secretary General of the union, Shabaan Khalifa, to discuss the arbitrary dismissal of 50 workers. The workers announced that they will organize a protest, at the companys headquarters in Salah Salem, to demand their financial dues. I signed a new contract with a clause stating that the employer has the right to dismiss the worker within  3 months, although I have been working for the company since 2015 Aya Mohammed, one of the dismissed workers, said. She also noted that the company informed her of the dismissal through her colleagues. Duaa Fathallah added that she has been working for the company for 3 years and was informed of her suspension on Thursday (September 14th) and that she is not on the work force from Saturday (September 16th). She explained that she was not informed of the final termination as she found out by accident and has not been paid any financial dues, explaining that the liquidation of employment will take place in three stages.
