Bahrain – The head of the “Mercury Middle East” labour union, Yousef Jawad, said there are hundreds of Arab and foreign workers who had not been paid for seven months, despite repeated promises by the companys management to pay them. He stressed that after the continuous pressure by the Ministry of Labour the management of the company paid 40 Bahraini workers five months out of seven late salaries, but the company at the same time dismissed 35 Bahraini workers and dismissed all trade union representatives. Jawad said that the companys management paid the late salaries only after the court ruled to ban the CEO of the company from travelling, which led to a meeting in the presence of the Ministry representatives and the company and a representative of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions and representatives of workers, in which they agreed on some points, however the company arbitrary dismissed the unionists and refused to consider the Ministry of Labour as a sponsor of the agreement, and to pay the late wages under the supervision of the ministry. Until now, the foreign workers in the company have not received their salaries, which is contrary to what the company promised in April,” he added.
