Egypt: Workers of Bilayem oil protest against abuses

Egypt – Hundreds of temporary workers in Belayem oil field, began a strike on Tuesday, to protest against the nonpayment of their salaries for about a month, and abuse. The striking workers are affiliated to Gulf Proceed Catering, which operates in the Belayem oil field. The striking workers said the company refused to increase their salaries by 10 percent a year, in accordance to the labour law, despite working for the company for six years. They added that they suffer from ill-treatment of the administration, and always threaten them with dismissal whenever they demanded their rights. The workers demanded the Ministry of Manpower to investigate their complaints and intervene with the company to obtain their rights.
