Egypt: Cleaners demand their late salaries

Egypt – – Dozens of Damietta hospitals cleaners protested in front of the governorates general office on Tuesday to demand the meeting of Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid Taha, governor of Damietta, to solve their problem as they have not been paid their for 4 months. Health Directorate in Damietta contracted with a cleaning company to provide the hospitals of the province with cleaning workers, they said that they have not been paid for 4 months. While cleaning workers in Met Ghaleb Hospital said that they agreed their low salaries because they need any job to support their families, they are demanding better work conditions as they are exposed to the risk of infection, microbes and viruses, and work without any level of occupational safety and health, the absence of protective clothing to protect them from microbes and diseases, they said that these demands are their right. They appealed to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health to intervene and solve their problems after the security of the General Directorate of the Governorate refused their entry, claiming that the Governor of Damietta is not specialized in that problem.
