Egypt: Nile construction workers on strike

Egypt – More than 5,000 workers at the Nile Construction and Paving Company have been on strike since Tuesday, after the Minister of Transport and Communications ignored their repeated complaints against the companys board of directors, demanding the formation of an administrative control committee to look into the violations in the company. Workers said in a memorandum submitted to the Minister of Transport, that their salaries are delayed for the months of October and November of 2017, plus 8 months allowances and incentives. Workers said that despite the claim of the Board of Directors that there is a financial crisis in the company installed surveillance cameras in offices and workshops  with cost of than one million and a half pounds. Workers complained that they face constant threat of dismissal by the President of the Company; workers also said that the management of the company punish those who claim their rights. The management also created unnecessary positions  that added burdens on its budget.
