Jordan – The National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) questioned figures issued by the Ministry of Labour confirming that 26,000 unemployed persons have been employed in the national employment campaign, stressing that the Centers field visits to the Qualified Industrial Zones and its meeting with Jordanian workers confirm that there are defects in this campaign, and that the announced numbers of workers who have been employed are greatly exaggerated. In its 13th annual report on the human rights situation in Jordan 2016, the Center stated that the five young men attempted suicide on May 11, 2016 in Amman, after losing hope for job opportunities, revealed the weakness of employment programs and their ineffectiveness”. With regard to child labour, the field visits of the inspection committees and the child labour department of the Ministry of Labour revealed that there are factories and places that employ children in violation of national law and international human rights standards. The report revealed that 30 human trafficking cases were transferred to the Attorney General, and 208 cases of (11) nationalities were housed in the shelters. The center carried out many visits to the Qualified Industrial Zones to check the environment of these areas and the extent to which their workers enjoy their rights. These visits revealed the deterioration of the situation in many factories and the significant number of violations against workers as they expressed their dissatisfaction with these situations, through many strikes during the year”. Among the most prominent violations were the ill-treatment and harassment of workers by some supervisors in factories and industrial establishments, the harassment of some workers sometimes, the delay in paying salaries, and holding on passports by employers
