Libya: The General Union of Trade Unions intends to appeal against retirement law

Libya – The Libyan General Federation of Trade Unions announced its intention to appeal the decision of the House of Representatives on raising the retirement age to 70 years, where the Union decided to file a lawsuit before the Constitutional Court, considering raising the retirement age is a violation of the ILO Convention 102 signed by Libya. The union criticized the lack of coordination with the unions before presenting the amendment to the House of Representatives as the workers participate in the membership of the Board of Directors of the Social Security Fund and a member of all sub-committees to resolve security disputes, considering that this exceeded the role played by trade unions and professional. The Libyan parliament, in its last meeting, discussed the proposal submitted by the chairman of the Social Security Fund Council, on extending the retirement age to 70 years for men, while continuing to deduct the subscription until the end of service.
