اAlgeria -The Algerian government has ordered imams of mosques to stop publishing their problems on facebook, in order to avoid harming the image of the imam and the state,’ and suggested accepting the complainants at the Ministry of Religious Affairs or through the official website. The Algerian Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Mohamed Issa, showed resentment against Imam for posting their complaints of physical attacks and threats published on the official page of the minister on Facebook. The minister announced a new ministerial procedure to allocate an official in the Ministrys office to receive complaints from staff imams and others to study and answer them, and to overcome the difficulties and problems facing them. Algerias religious sector workers union say that the government of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika should provide legal protection for Imams by issuing a law criminalizing assaults on Imams and imposing the most severe punishment on them. The head of the Algerian imams union, Jaloul Hajimi said that moderate imams in Algeria are facing organized aggression by extremist groups aimed at undermining the moderate imams. He called on the government to move seriously to stop conspiracies against moderate imams.
