Jordan: Electricity Syndicate demands to stop forcing its workers to resign

Jordan – The General Union of Electricity Workers demanded the Ministry of Labour to stop what it described as  dismissal massacre practiced by the Electricity Generating Company against workers, while the companys management approved the dismissal of 6 workers, but in line with the Jordanian Labour Law. The union said in a statement that the company threaten the employees of dismiss if they do not sign voluntary resignation, saying the companys management had dismissed a group of workers and intended to dismiss another group later this week. The union urged the minister of labour to intervene to prevent this measure in order to avoid any actions that might be taken by the union and the workers. They also demanded the companys management to return the dismissed workers. The union recalled the agreement between the management of the company and the government to approve  on Hussein thermal / Zarqa capacity of 485 MW project to maintain the Jordanian labour in the company, but the company continued in its attempts to terminate the services of workers by forcing them to leave work. The Central Electricity Generating Company (CEPC) admitted that they dismissed  six employees in accordance with the Jordanian Labour Law, where they have been compensated and paid their full dues as required by law. The company said it has more than 700 workers, and it is committed to supplying all financial benefits to the income tax department. And that it is recording a significant annual decline in its revenues due to the suspension of work, which is at the request of the government, and it does not have the right of refuse these requests .
