Egypt: The lobby of businessmen in parliament seeks to adapt the labour law according to their interests

The Speaker of the Egyptian parliament decided to discuss the new draft labour law in the dome of the Egyptian parliament after Christmas and afterthat some MPs asked to re-debate some of its articles before sending it for discussion.

According to observers,this lawis expected to raise a lot of disputes and debates, especially when it comes to childand womenlabour’s materials. This law was enacted to make funds collected by the Ministry of Manpower. In fact, it does not achieve any interest for workers or employers. In addition, there is a lobby of deputies made up of businessmen, who are preparing to exert intensive pressure, so that the new articles of the labour law meet their interests and demandsand fulfil their special requirement. This latter is represented getting rid of any worker at any time and that the employment contracts have to be not binding with any guarantees or grants to workers as one of their rights.

It is also expected that a discussion will be held on the lack of administrative reform, after the implementation of the civil service law, the governments plan for the recruitment of public jobs and the installation of temporary employment and its policy on the competitions announced to provide employment opportunities in government institutions and interests which are limited to a certain age and modern qualifications. In addition, to discuss the mechanisms of the national strategy to combat corruption and its objectives and the decline of Egypts ranking according to the Doing Business report issued by the World Bank.
