In a new creative way to express their anger and suffering, hundreds of coal miners in the town of “Jarada” came out in their work’s outfits, raising the coffins of coal and black loaf victims on their shoulders. They marched through the citys slums, carrying bread and Koranic books with their charcoal-stained hands.
The protesters denounced the silence of the government and to the non-response to their just and legitimate demands. Moreover, they described the recent meetings with elected officials, politicians, members of the municipal council and civil society actors as an attempt to gangthe protesters anger. They also called for a ministerial delegation to listen to their concerns and problems, considering that “they should talk to the“big committee”, which was formed from the committees’ slums and which includes representatives of each neighbourhood.”
It is noteworthy that two brothers were killed under the rubble of a well in the town of “Jarada” recently, digging for coal. This tragic incident revealed the suffering and harsh conditions of the citys residents after the closure of the coal mines operated by the “Moroccan Coals “ company, which was providing permanent employment opportunities. As a result, the youth of the region became unemployed without a source of livelihood, which forced them the unsafe traditional digging in the abandoned dangerous mines for the extraction of coal, which benefit from its anarchist production, major coal-consuming companies, which get it easily at low prices.
The government of the Ottomans also has not been exempt from the slogans of the protesters such as Hey government are you done?”, The government is fake and they said it is Islamic”, Oh governor could you really understand the sufferings of “Jarada” citizens”. “The government still did not understand what we want” , “You are all the same as long as “Jarada” is still suffering” and “Goodbye officials, the time of obedience has gone … Now this is the time of boycott. . Other slogans also called for acceleratingthe response to the citizens’ demands, and listening to the anger of people before explosion and escalation.
Yesterdays protests were marked by the participation of the residents of “Wajda” and “Burqam”, which came in solidarity with “Jarada” citizens, in addition to a group of areas surrounding the town of “Jarada” such as “Takfait”, “Ain BeniMotahar”, “Kenfouda” and others.
