What is happening in Tunisia?

Tunisia is witnessing an escalating social movement in protest against the rise in prices of basic commodities called for by the What are we waiting for? campaign, which consists of hundreds of young women and men taken from the streets and neighborhoods, especially slums. A platform for organizing movements, writing on walls and distributing data to sensitizethe public opinion on the need to move and revolt against the economic and social policies of the government.

The campaign took an escalating pattern in its movements, and despite they were peaceful movements, the security authorities tended to use violence leading to detentions. Many activists denounced the attacks as a flagrant violation of the right to protest and for peaceful assembly, which is guaranteed by the constitution. Moreover, they asked for a review of the security policy in dealing with peaceful social movements.
