For the fourth week in a row, the closure of the cement factory in “Feriana” has continued, after deep disagreements between the general administration, workers and their unions. The conciliation of negotiation sessions was unable to find solutions to the problems and defuse the crisis, which also affected more than 50 factories for tiles, ceramics and real estate, which are related to the only factory that provides white cement in the country.
Our sources confirmed that the details of the crisis are represented in the intention of the general administration of the factory to cut the union’s work and try to encircle and limit its activities and meetings.It stopped 7 trade unionists from the work and expelled 30 workers, not acknowledging the social dimension or taking into account the harsh social conditions of workers. Besides,it intimidated them and ignored their professional and social demands. Moreover, it dropsthe previous agreementand because of its neglecttowards the working conditions, 3 workers were deadin a work accident, which fuelled the tension between them.
The trade union party called on changing the directorgeneral and appoint as a component person, who can deal with the factory, find appropriate solutions to the problems accumulated and push towards the purification of the social climate and restore things to normal.
However, the presidency of the Egyptian public administration had another opinion. It decided to stop production for 6 months on the pretext of disturbing the social climate and reject all the demands of trade unionists. In addition, it announced that it would punish those who caused chaos and called for the change of the director general”. Thus, these decisions contributeto deepen the crisis more .
