Morocco: The Moroccan Labour Union announces a full month of protests

The Moroccan LabourUnion decided to protest for a full month against what it called government policies in the social sphere and the attack on the gains of the working class, notably trade union freedoms.

An announcement clarified that the General Secretariat of the Union came out in a meeting held on Wednesday, January 24, under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the Union “Al Miloudi”, which violates a series of decisions. The most important of which is the allocation of a full month of protests and struggles in all professional sectors and the confrontations of attacks affecting trade union freedoms through regional and local unions, and national unions.

The announcement also stated that during the meeting, it was decided to submit a memorandum on the plight of trade union freedoms in various professional sectors to the Prime Minister and to the responsible departments, after the successive attacks on trade union freedoms in accordance with the hostile logic towards the working class, with the intention of eliminating the accumulated rights and gains due to their struggles and historical sacrifices.

The Union Secretariat also denounced the regulatory law draft for the strike right submitted by the government and without any consultation with the trade union movement. It added that it did not reach to make a copy of the draft law until January 8, 2018, .

It was decided during the meeting held at the central headquarters of the Union in Casablanca to invite the National Assembly to convene in a special session on the subjects of freedom of association and the government project in the field of the right to strike.
