On February 4morning, riot police stormed the sugar cane factory in “HafatTabah”. The factory workers were brutally beaten for a week. Moreover, they arrested dozens of them and took them to “HafatTabah” ‘s police station. Then, they were transferred to the judiciary in “Shoush” .
This brutal attack by the security forces followed the workers announcement that they would continue their strike until their demands are met.
The repressive forces took control of all the doors of the factory, roamed in its sides, preventing workers from the agriculture department from joining their colleagues. The guards also rode motorcycles in sugarcane plantations to create a climate of fear among the workers in the agriculture department, chasing workers and preventing them from approaching to the factory.
In the face of this dangerous precedent, the other sugar cane workers in the “HafatTabah” called on allthe security forces to leave the factory and declared that the workers fair demands cannot be stopped by the pressure, threats, arrest and imprisonment of their colleagues.
It is important to note that the productivity of the factory has been significantly affected by the policy that workers see as a failure and the pursuit of its privatization, making workers in a tragic situation in terms of work and the way of living. Also, workers have staged numerous strikes since August protesting against their poor living conditions and unpaid salaries in several occasions.
