CNN revealed in its report that there were about 20,000 domestic workers of different nationalities in Jordan working without official documents for 50,000 legal workers.
The report mentioned fears of the spread of human trafficking. Workers are required to work for long hours of more than 17 working hours, with low wages. In some cases, the return is mere promises, and some are subjected to violence, beatings and forced labour by office owners or employers, in addition to holding their passports and not renewing their residency, which makes their presence illegal.
On the other hand, a report by Tamkeen organization for legal aid and human rights found that 38% of domestic workers do not receive their salaries on time. In addition, many were tricked by employers who promised to pay them in the last period of the contract, but they did not pay them. As a result, many of them remain in Jordan for a long time without a monthly salary or any contact with their families.
