Egypt: What has really happened with the disappearance of journalists “Hassan Al-Banna Mubarak” and “Mostafa Al-Aasar”?

The family of “Hassan Al-Banna Mubarak “, who is a journalist in the Egyptian newspaper“Al-Shorouq” informed the security authorities of the disappearance of their son four days ago, while the family of Mostafa Al-Aasar”, who is a journalist in the Ultra Voice website is still searching for him in hospitals and police stations in vain.

“Hassan al-Banna” disappeared as he was heading to his work place in “Dokki”, accompanied by his housing partner “Mustapha al-Assar”, who also disappeared at the same time.They are both living together in the same apartment in“Faisal” of Giza.

The family of “Hassan al-Banna Mubarak” believes that her son disappeared forcibly, against his will. Hassan was communicating with one of his friends through an SMS application on Sunday morning, before he stopped responding suddenly and closed his phone said lawyer “Halim Hanish”.

According to the lawyer, “Al Banna” and “Al-Aasar” phones remained closed most of the time during the first day of their disappearance until the first phone opened twice during the day. However, no one responded to any calls. Moreover, it seemed that someone was browsing “Al-Aasar”‘s Facebook account without responding to any calls or messages.

According to lawyer “Halim Hanish”, the family of journalist” Hassan al-Banna”,was unofficially able to know that the latter is located at the National Security headquarters in “Sheikh Zayed” city of Giza province. The lawyer also added that the national security in “Fayoum” had already summoned the brother of “Al-Aasar” two months ago to ask him about his brother “Mustafa”.

It is noteworthy that the Press Syndicate Council has announced the detention of 31 journalists, some of whom have been sentenced to prison while others are still in pre-trial detention. The Egyptian Coordination of Rights and Freedoms has already published a distress call from the family of the journalist “Hossam Al-Wakil” requesting to know about his place of detention. This latter was arrestedat his home in Alexandria on the last 30 December, however, his place of detention is still unknown.

The Police also arrested “Omar al-Sayyed”, a journalist in the Middle East news agency, from his home in “Helwan” last November. According to his father, his whereabouts remained unknown.
